New Car: 2011 Mazda MX-5 Karai Gleams
The Mazda Miata is going green in Germany—no, we’re not talking about a Miata hybrid—but a Miata that resembles an avocado. The special edition MX-5 Karai is getting a sharper image, complete with a bold new color (as if we haven’t made it obvious enough), sportier equipment, and even a special gift for buyers to get them looking as sharp as the Karai.
The Karai, Japanese word for ‘sharp,’ will most notably look special due to its striking green metallic paint. The electric metal folding roof will help offset the green gleam with a black accent, along with a black front grille, foglamps, and 17-inch black wheels. The interior will be dressed in black and silver, featuring Recaro sports seats.
Unfortunately, no Incredible Hulk power is added to its engine. The 2.0-liter engine remains the same and will crank out the usual 160-hp, but a sport package is available which includes sport mufflers and a lowering kit, while a convenience package allows the tech-savvy to enjoy an iPod and USB adapter.
And what good what a sharper-looking car do without a sharper-looking owner? Mazda is throwing in a special gift to buyers to include a special edition watch with the same green, black and silver color scheme as the green apple-mobile.
The Karai will appear in all its green glory in early August for €30,000 which equals approximately $43,000. But if you’re interested, you’d better act fast, as this model is limited to only 165 units.
